Inspired by nature I originally wanted to explore the beauty of the

natural landscape. However, it would be wrong to ignore the many

environmental issues and ocean pollution that exists today, so my work is focused on an exploration of the effects of mankind on our oceans.

There is a tension between presence and absence in my paintings used to illustrate the beauty and dynamism of our landscapes that is slowly being destroyed and polluted by the actions of mankind. The patterns are inspired by art nouveau designs and land art

structures, both art forms that represent conflict between the natural and manmade.

Through the exploration of paint, translucent mediums are used as a bridge between the landscape and destruction. The masked areas change between organic, geometric, coloured and greyscale to represent the uncertainties of the future. Will a heightened awareness of environmental issues and campaigns save the oceans or are we destined to destroy it completely?
