At large, the media’s impact on women is something I have been working to explore in a number of ways using digital and performative platforms. My particular focus has been women’s habitual behaviours towards beautification processes and makeup application. This concept has worked in conjunction with how women have been historically identified by the patriarchy as a
sexual object, as well as investigating more current topics like how makeup culture is perceived; whether it is an emblem of a still-existing male gaze, or whether it is an expression of individualism for the female gender.
“When women use their bodies in their artwork, they are using their selves: a significant psychological factor converts their bodies or faces from object to subject.”
