Artistically, I’ve always leaned towards a formalist outlook. Favouring a compositional prioritisation over conceptual - my artwork has always navigated the uncertain never-region between the two. Ironically this stance has served my conceptual development quite well, as I examined the idea of sensory overload and how visual perception differs from person to person. Due to my own diagnosis of epilepsy, my visual perception has a proneness to being overwhelmed by certain over-stimuli. Rather than examine this perception through a cultural lens, I’ve always been solely interested in how I can replicate sensory overload as an aesthetic experience. From a formalist viewpoint, I’m intrigued as to how my perspective translates into the realm of aestheticism, what commonalities and differences they share in beauty.
